camp-2011-290x90It happens every season. Cut-down day arrives on the heels of the second set of pre-season tilts, and long lists of players are jettisoned.

Experience Counts

Avon_run-290x90At a point in the CFL league year when much of the news revolves around the release and “retirement” of veteran players, it was refreshing to hear about the signings of veteran free agents Kamau Peterson and Kerry Joseph by the B.C. Lions and Edmonton Eskimos respectively. Both players carry all-star ability and invaluable leadership to their new clubs, and there’s just no overstating the value of veteran presence to relatively young clubs like the Lions and Esks.

CFL_Draft_Logo-fpBetween the media buzz surrounding this year’s CFL Canadian Draft (which I would say was at least twice as loud as any year I can remember) and the excellent coverage provided on CFL.ca leading up to the event, I was about as stoked as I could be to tune in to TSN’s coverage of the first two rounds.

Earlier this week, the CFL released the results of its fourth annual audit of club salary spending.

Seven of the league’s eight franchises were found to be in accordance with the $4.25 million spending limit imposed by its Salary Management System.

According to the league’s official release, only the Saskatchewan Roughriders exceeded the 2010 spending limit, busting the cap by $26,677, which means Gang Green has been in violation of the league’s spending strictures three out of the four regulated years.
