Alouettes’ Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp announced today that veteran defensive end Anwar Stewart signed a new contract with the team.
Stewart (6’2’’, 251 lbs), a 10-year CFL veteran, including nine seasons with the Alouettes, has won four Grey Cups, three of them with Montreal. He is also the team’s all-time sack leader with 59. In 2010, he recorded six sacks and 26 defensive tackles. He signed a new one-year deal which also includes an option year. He is 34.
"We are happy to announce that Big Stew is back for another season. Anwar is definitely one of the team leaders and is a dedicated Alouette on and off the field. His leadership on the playing field and in the locker room have inspired many of the younger players and have helped those young ones raise their level to help the Alouettes win back-to-back Grey Cups", said Popp.
"If you’ve had the fortune to meet Anwar in person, you know he is an infectious individual. He is a popular individual with his teammates and in the schools. What most people do not know is how hard a worker and how dedicated Anwar is outside of the playing field. He lives in the Montreal community year round, is dedicated to the team’s stay in school program, and he is an avid workout nut. He has been able to play as long as he has because he takes care of his body. Congratulations today Anwar!", added Popp.

The team also confirmed that the following players have signed and should attend the Alouettes’ training camp this June.
