Whitaker - 1000 yards season ?

Postby XGamer » 11 Aug 2011 08:38

Last time, an Alouettes player rushed for 1000 yards was Cobourne in 2009 with 1,214 yards.

After 6 games - Whitaker has 493 yards after 6 games.....still 12 games left.....can/will he make it ?

*************************************************

I like to think so, as long as he stays healthy! He's leading the league now in yards so I'd like to see him maintain that lead for the whole season!! Whitaker jerseys in the Rouge stores @ McGill next year??

Why not?

He is on pace for 1479...
He needs to average 42 yards per game over the next 12 games
No reason he wont make 1000, aside from injury

Agreed...he's a workhorse and I think only injury will prevent him from reaching that goal.

As long as they give him the ball more than 7 times in a game (TiCats game) then yes there should be no reason he can not hit 1000 mark.

Im not looking to be a smart a$$ but

6.8(average per carry) X 7(carries per game) X 12(games left) + 493(yards to date) = 1064

I created the topic for a couple reasons:

1- Like the majority of you i'm sure he'll get to 1000 yards but ...
2 - ......in our Pass Offense, i'm afraid that more we advance toward end of season we'll run less time (especially if we want AC to break the record this year...i know Trestman is not record oriented....) and less we run less it will show up on tape & once post-season hit, we'll run like we did the last 2 years....

3- Wanted to show all the Cobourne NUT-HUGGERS that Whitaker has a good season on the field....

*******************

Trestman has rested the RB for the stretch the last 2 years, it's speculation on my part, but from he has said in the past and Cobourne reaction to it, it sounds like what it is. It has worked great fir us to clear the east final and GC.
hmmm nothing like the smell of victory, to the grey cup, Prepare to be boarded you bilge rat!!

Tu as bien raison Johnny!

fair enough if you use that 6.8 average. However the game against the TiCats he touched the ball 7 times for a whopping 30 yards rushing. That would be an average of 4.28.
And they still have 3 more games against the TiCats and all their games to play against the league leading D in the Bombers.
If he can gain 6.8 average in all of those games all the more power and a big ATTA BOY!

Just saying ;)

Trestman will not admit it but being a former QB himself and with AC this close to the record they will continue to be a pass first oriented offense. It will be up to Whitaker to make the most of his touches along with the help of his "hogs" !!

After 12 games / Apres 12 matchs:

144 runs/courses, 906 yards/verges, average 6.3 yards, longest 58 yards, 2 TD, 0 Fumble

6 games left, 94 yards needed, but Trestman usually rests his starters in last regular season game if nothing is on the line......

He will get it for sure
I dont think this will be a season where Trestman can rest his starters.
It wont be decided till the last game of the season IMO

I hope for their sake Emmanuel Marc & Rashaud Salughter are following in Whitaker's foot steps...learn the system, bide your time. When your number gets called, make the most of it. That's why it was easy for Jim Popp to let Avon walk.

And this year will be a dogfight to the very end. I remain hopeful that I go to the Big O for the Eastern Final and not the semi-final.

CFL.ca writers seem to think he has 1192 rushing yards

http://www.cfl.ca/article/thigpen-headl ... f-the-week

He currently leads the CFL in rushing yards with 1,192, and also leads all running backs with 487 receiving yards.
