Remember this day!

Postby sectionu2 » 26 Jan 2011 19:30

Remember it well, this day is the end of a glorious era for the Als. The last time that we were blessed in having such a star, the last time such a great receiver-QB duo has played in Mtl, was 55 years ago. Prince Hal Petterson and Sam the Rifle, we more than likely not live to see something of that caliber in this city again in our lifetime.
What luck that i have lived to have seen him play with AC.
Happy retirement Ben, you earned it. Thanks for the memories.
hmmm nothing like the smell of victory, to the grey cup, Prepare to be boarded you bilge rat!!

I feel very lucky, I started following the Alouettes the year Ben and AC came to Montreal, it will be very strange for me to see the team without Cahooooon!

Glad me & my son had the opportunity to see him play LIVE.....

Like U2 said, we might never see this happen again....

I was fortunate enough to be in the stands for the following:

- see him lift his last 2 Grey Cups
- his record breaking catch right in front of me @ McGill
- his last game

Thanks for the memories Ben, you truly are a Living legend !
Season ticket holder since 2004 !

Back-to-Back Grey Cups ('09 & '10) and I witnessed it LIVE from the stands !

I am happy to say I've been a season ticket holder during his entire Alouettes career. I too will miss the weekly "Cahooooon" chants. Kinda reminds me of another Montreal sports icon, "Felipe Alouuuuuuuuuuuuuu". Won't be the same.

From the CRAZY catches, the AC to BC tandem, to seeing Ben break the record at home, I have been blessed. Ben will be missed.

Today is a bittersweet day for me too....I'm very glad Ben's leaving on his own terms. He's retiring as a 2-time Grey Cup champion and he deserves to leave a winner. But I'm a little sad as he's been such a fixture for the Alouettes and it'll be weird to see Alouettes games and not see #86 making an unbelievable yet punishing catch.

Ben was also my dad's favourite player from this era and if he was still with us, I know my pops woulda shed a tear today. It was quite the sight to see my dad, a quiet reserved man, shouting "CAA-HOOOOON!!" at the top of his lungs along with me & everyone else at Molson Stadium. Only a truly amazing individual could incite that and Ben Cahoon certainly is that individual.

I consider myself so lucky to have met Ben a number of times and while he didn't know me by name, he sure made me feel like I was an old pal with his warm smile & pleasant demeanor. I'd tell him how awesome he played or how much I admired what he did and his humbleness never ceased to amaze me. Such a rare trait when you see the way certain athletes carry themselves these days.

At this year's parade, I grabbed him en route to the team bus. I told him that I really hoped he'd give us one more year, but if not, then thank you for all the wonderful memories. Ever gracious, he thanked ME for being such a great fan. This world needs more men like Ben, even if they can't catch a football.

Ben's one of the best things that have ever happened to this franchise and I sincerely hope they do right by him as soon as possible and for the rest of his life.

I saw Ben make his record breaking catch from AC
I was really hoping to see AC make his record breaking pass to Ben.

Good luck Ben. Thanks for the great years
