Do we need a kick returner?

All season i"ve been saying we need to find a kick returner. We've had a disadvantage all season by getting pinned back and starting our drives from inside the 25? And to make matters worse, Whyte struggled at times with his punts and special teams struggled with stopping the opposing returners giving them a short field. I don't think it's the returner we have a problem with, it's speacial teams!! Let's face it: we had Larry Taylor and Chad Owens. Both couldn't do anything here yet they're STARS in Calgary and Toronto Popp has a knack for finding talent and he saw that both of these players had it but with us they we're unable to shine and that tells me that maybe the problem is with the rest of the guys or more likely a COACHING problem. Time to look into this next year because if we don't fix this problem we are putting our own selves at a disadvantage. Speacial teams are often neglected but they can be big game changers

I don't know......Larry Taylor was great until he missed 80% of the season with his tryouts for the Jets.....they should have given him the chance to start fresh from TC this past season, but they cut him loose instead

Everyone bags on the various returners, but at the end of the day if the other ST'ers aren't blocking then it doesn't matter who's returning the kicks. With the benefit of hindsight, we could always wish for Chad Owens & Larry Taylor's amazing running. But I can't help but wonder if they'd be stymied too with this current crop of special team players.

SectionU2 is right, we need a proper ST coach. Shame that Mike O'Shea would never leave the Argos.

I agree. The special team coordinator is Andy Bishcoff. He's also running backs coach and assistant to the head coach. Maybe he needs a lighter load?? Wearing too many hats!

We had a ST coach at that time, and he was not that bad, he left after just before the 2010 TC, family issue. Our St were not that great with him, but definitely better than with Bishoff.

I just noticed that. So definitely need to change that and get ourselves a real special team coordinator. And can anyone explain what a "special teams quality control" position does?? This is Carson Walsh.Is he a coach?
