CJAD SPORTS HAS LEARNED...CALVILLO FINALLY HOME, BUT FOR HOW LONG?
FORMER CFL MVP KERRY JOSEPH COULD SOON BE WORKING OUT FOR POPP&TRESTMAN
Anthony Calvillo is finally home with his beloved wife and daughters to celebrate his 38th birthday Monday. The extra caution and observation time (2 nights) at Montreal General suggests that while his injured chest is only bruised, that the future Hall of Famer was badly hurt and could be out several weeks---some CFL sources are suggesting 4-6.
Kerry Joseph has been working out in New Orleans since his February release. Despite interest from both the UFL spring league in the US, and some training camp feelers from several CFL teams Joseph has chosen to wait for the right opportunity.
Joseph's agent Paul Sheehy whose client list already includes Als stars like Jamel Richardson, Mark Estelle, Jermaine McElveen and Eric Wilson, insists Joseph has kept himself in great shape.
He could be in North Carolina working out for Als' GM Jim Popp and Coach Trestman early this week, while Popp is there scouting Larry Taylor's NFL shot with the Jets. Trestman is home visiting family.
One CFL source tells CJAD "it's only a question of when and where" for Joseph to return to the CFL.
Several Alouettes are heading to the north of Quebec for an annual visit to encourage youth to stay in school and get involved in sports. More on that coming up this week on CJAD'S RIC PETERSON SHOW.
CALVILLO'S UNHAPPY BIRTHDAY...CJAD SPORTS CONFIRMS ALS TALKING WITH KERRY JOSEPH
With Anthony Calvillo recovering from a bruised sternum just days shy of his 38th birthday, former CFL veteran quarterback Kerry Joseph claims he's ready to jump into the breach. Als' GM Jim Popp is not available to comment but Joseph says his agent is already in discussion with Montreal.
Calvillo's injury in a win against the Blue Bombers Thursday has fueled speculation the future Hall of Famer could be out 4-6 weeks. Head Coach Marc Trestman before returning home to North Carolina for his own bye-week break insisted there is no clear timeline for AC's return.
The Als do not play again until Friday September 3rd against the BC Lions.
Joseph turns 37 in October, but was CFL Player of the Year as recently as 2007 when he led the Saskatchewan Roughriders to Grey Cup victory. He was later traded to the Argos and was let go when Toronto flushed all their returning qb's.
