Higgins takes the heat for a bad call.

Postby Chuggabunch » 03 Oct 2011 12:50

Tom Higgins has been quoted and came out to say "that was the worst penalty call this season". CFL.ca We all know the one. The Pass Interference on Greg Laybourn when Carr could have been easily called for Offensive pass interference. If our defence didn't make that stand I would have freaked right out.
I don't usually blame the refs cause it goes both ways. Some good, some bad for both teams in a game. However that PI call was just terrible. I understand the refs in our league aren't full time like the NFL, but really, that was shocking. I'm sure if you polled fans of other teams, and asked them their thoughts, the feeling would have been mutual. BAD call ref!

As far as the clock was concerned, sometimes the clock on the TV screen isn't the exact time in the stadium. I think Duane Ford tried to explain that to the TV viewers. If any Bombers fans dispute it fine, but that time clock situation has been worse. Who here remebers that game in BC two years ago when the refs pager wasn't working so the crew upstairs couldn't help him out. Then the refs and upstairs crew started blaming each other.Funny how a communication device caused so much miscommunication. Cost us the game and Jim Popp even sent in a formal complaint to the league for the first time in years. I sure hope these situations get figured out. Could you imagine if it happend during a playoff game, WOW.

Oh yeah a quote I read this week just for fun. " The man who complains about the way the ball bounces is likely the one who dropped it" Lou Holtz ( legendary NCAA football coach)

:whs: If this was on Twitter, I'd want to retweet it 100 times. I mean, Carr should give Laybourn back his wallet too.

No question
That PI was the worst call I had ever seen but as for the clock.

I would have to say that 5 seconds was correct...TSN had plenty of time to adjust it while the previous play was being reviewed. But....WPG's game clock does not show 1/10 of a second therefore there was anywhere between 4.1 and 5 seconds remaining.
Many bomber fans are questioning how it could take 3 second for the first play and 5 for the second. Its because on the first play, the clock starts on the snap....on the second...it starts on the whistle. If you watch and count. Brink took a good 1.5 seconds just to snap the ball.

Count the time between the first and second whistles....it was 5 seconds

Sources have told TSN that the CFL has dismissed side judge Rick Berezowski, the ref who made the pass interference call on Montreal Alouettes rookie cornerback Greg Laybourn late in Friday's game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Laybourn was defending in the end zone against Blue Bombers receiver Greg Carr when replays showed Carr putting his arms around Laybourn. The play drew an interference call, which easily could have been called on the offense.

Berezowski, a native of Rosetown, SK., has worked partial seasons in the CFL for many years before he was added to the full time ranks in 2009. He worked the 2004 Vanier Cup and also officiated the Mitchell Bowl and several Canada West conference title games.
