Forget about a three-peat

Postby West Coast Als Fan » 06 Nov 2011 02:18

I can't believe I paid money to watch that game tonight. And to think I used to accuse the Habs of mailing it in when they came to play in Vancouver. They were never as bad as the Als were tonight. Never.

Sure the Lions played well but ONE POINT? One field goal attempt (a long one) and ZERO trips to the red zone.

The worst game I have ever seen bar none.

:whs: Hamilton hasn't beaten us at home and it'll be loud at Olympic Stadium. The Winnipeg games were all close and they're banged up. A trip to the Grey cup is very possible, but the team has to be focused. Last night was as unfocused as I've ever seen.

I stop watching at our second series when Ferri started juggling the football, I had a flash of all those crummy in bc games we usually do. So I went to bed. I was hoping that by not watching it would sort of anti jinx us. But it was not to b.

Wow! Seems like you've all thrown yourself under the bus before it even got there man. Yes, I had a diffuclt time dealing with last night too, but get it togeather Als fans. Get your freak on! I guess not. You'r all a bunch of jump the fence cry babies. I haven't been back to the Stade Olympic since that Grey Cup in '08 because of idiots who have dumb ass ideas of jinxing the situation, including myself :bapteme: .
I plan on changing this.
Now is the time our team needs us most.

Exactly! That's when our team needs us and I'm sure the press tomorrow will tear them apart and therefore turn fans away from Big O game! We need to come together as much as our team does. The ONLY games that matter are THE NEXT THREE GAMES. BC reversed their fate, we can reverse ours.

:beaver: :beaver: :beaver: :beaver:

Anybody have any idea on how many tickets sold for Sunday's game? I have this terrible feeling that we'll be lucky if we get 30000. All the bandwagon jumpers have jumped off and it's next to impossible to find anybody who will take extra tickets to any game this year. I hope I'm wrong, but something tells me I'm not.

So let's be 30000 and enjoy the last game of the 2011 season in Montreal with the biggest tailgate party ever held. As I am writing this, about 50 pounds of maple syrup pork beans are slowly cooking. I am also bringing ham and eggs for breakfast, a few bottles of port wine and enough hot chocolate to serve hundreds.

There is more to a football game than what happens during the four quarters of play. Let's celebrate football, with or without a three-peat.

An thought just crossed my mind. If we are actually just 30000 persons to see a «less dominant than before» Alouettes team in what will seem to be an empty olympic stadium, I would rather see a playoff game in a full Percival Molson stadium.

Like I said last week...

Postby West Coast Als Fan » 13 Nov 2011 22:30

...forget about a three-peat.

If you take away the 10 points the Ti-Cats scored off of turnovers the end result would have been different. But mostly, the Als lost for the same reason they usually lose: the inability of the defence to step up and make plays when they need to. For about the last 5 weeks now, any time the opposition puts up a pass you could pretty much guarantee that it would be a completion unless the receiver dropped it or the ball was overthrown. The secondary was completely incapable of stopping the big play which is why the Als sputtered to the finish line.

When you're offence scores 44 points and your QB throws for over 500 yards nearly breaking a league record in the process, you should win that game. But in truth, the defence played just as poorly overall today as they did a week ago in BC. The only reason that game was so lopsided is because the offence didn't get it's act together. But while I was surprised that they only scored one point in that game I was not at all surprised that they surrendered over 40. That's pretty much become par for the course the past few weeks.

In the end the Als were just too banged up to be a credible contender this year. You can't expect to win with 5 of your starters on defence out for the season. The hill was just too high to climb using subs and rookies. Today they started a guy at middle linebacker who had never played a down for them all season. I realize they had no choice due to injuries but middle linebacker isn't exactly a minor position. You're in on nearly every play and in this league you won't win many big games with inexperience at a skill position. It sort of reminded me of the 2003 Grey Cup when Don Matthews started two rookies DB's who got totally exposed by Ricky Ray and the Esks.

Even if the Als had come up with a miracle and won this game they'd never go all the way. No offence to Ti-Cat fans but in truth it shouldn't be that hard to beat Hamilton; they were the weakest of the 6 playoff teams and the game was in the Als' barn. If they couldn't beat Hamilton they wouldn't have had a prayer in Winnipeg next week or in BC on November 27th.

I agree with 100% of what you said.
This lose is on the D.

Not once was the defence able to prevend the Ticats from scoring on the drive following an Als score.

I admire what Anwar Stewart said in his post-game comments. He didn't mince words which was good because no one on offence is really allowed to say "We played well enough to win but our defence let us down". But Anwar said it. He said flat out that "our offence played well enough for us to win this game" and he singled out Coburn's long TD run as being the very type of play that just cannot happen in a big game or any game, for that matter. His exact words were "Stupid" and "Ridiculous" and he's right.

And yes, I realize that the Ti-Cats got away with some holds and pass interference but we all know before the game even begins that the officiating is going to be crap so you can't use it as an excuse. The refereeing has always and will always be bush league and, in the end, it screws both teams evenly. All it would have taken to win was just one big play on defence. One stop. One instance where they could deny the Ti-Cats first down yardage on second-and-long. Is that asking too much from a team that has won the last two Grey Cups? To step up and make a couple of plays?

And now that I think of it, why the hell, after the Als won the coin toss before overtime, did they decide to give Hamilton the ball first? Let AC and the offence get the ball. Let them score and put the pressure on the Ti-Cats to match you. Instead they let Hamilton have the ball first and put all the pressure on their defence and then on AC.

And they way they played defence on that 2 point conversion was pathetic too. He couldn't have been more open.

You always the your opponent the ball first.

That way you know what you have to do.
Do you need to score a TD to win or can you play conservative and go for the Field goal
