Just 5 weeks from free agency, Chip Cox has happily locked himself up with the Als with a new longterm deal.

In a CJAD exclusive interview, Cox admits there was no other CFL option he even wanted to explore.

The first teammates he contacted to share the good news? Fellow defensive players Marc Estelle and Billy Parker, as well as former Alouette Davis Sanchez.

"it's not so much about winning another Grey Cup...it's a family environment there for me," says the 5-year Als' veteran. "I'm comfortable there, I just want to get better like I try every year, so why wouldn't I want to go back there?"

Cox est un habile diplomate. Y avait-il pour lui un meilleur endroit pour faire ce métier qu'il aime que Montréal? Une organisation de premier ordre, une équipe d'entraîneurs compétente et relativement stable, un poste de partant assuré et une philosophie qui sert tous les joueurs de l'équipe. En-dehors d'une offre concrète de la NFL, je vois mal comment il aurait pu améliorer sa situation ailleurs.

Haha, I already made the mistake of buying a black jersey once. At 2007 Grey Cup in Toronto on the Saturday, I was about 16 beers in... bad idea. Waste of money... Black jersey is terrible and I'm stuck with it!
