CFL fires line judge for that brutal pass interference call

Postby West Coast Als Fan » 03 Oct 2011 22:18

Looks like the CFL finally decided to do something about their crappy officiating. Can't say I'm sorry to see it happen either. That call could have cost us a shot at first place.

Apparently its not the first time a ref was fired....
remember 2 years ago in BC with the whistle debacle?
Seems a ref was let go after that one as well but its the first time I hear of it

Its at the end of this video

As per this article

http://www.sportsnet.ca/football/cfl/20 ... _replaced/

3 refs tried to convince him to pick up the flag but he refused

A secondary source Berezowski was "on the bubble" for his overall performance, but emphasized that he refused to pick up the flag and change his call when advised to do by three other members of the crew

It just reinforces that the league needed to act the way they did. Heck maybe one day they will improve to perfection ;)

In baseball the home plate ump has the power to overrule the others

I wondered if the head ref had the same power....I guess not

The head judge is too far to make that call, he checked the line and QB for holding and infraction in that mass.

For that particular call, yes he was too far(Well I think call you could have made from Africa)

I meant in general. when conditions were right

Yes if if he can see over or through 6'5" lineman in front of him, but if he is looking there he is not doing his job, which is to look for infractions from lineman or QB. Sorry but the rest of the ref that are in back were in position to comment on it.

I think you are missing my point.(my fault for trying to be funny)

I agree that 99.99% of the time the head ref is not in position to see the play, but in the rare case that he was
