CALVILLO ROBBED OF MOP

Postby Lillikins » 25 Nov 2011 12:03

Once again, Calvillo was robbed of MOP. If you look at the stats, Calvillo surpassed Lulay in every category this season, not to mention breaking major CFL and NFL records.
Here's the stats:

Name Team Att Comp % Yards Long TD % Ints % Rating
CALVILLO, A MTL 654 404 61.8 5,251 59 32 4.9 8 1.2 98.2
LULAY, T BC 583 342 58.7 4,815 100 32 5.5 11 1.9 95.8

Apparently, they judged Lulay on the last eleven games of the season. Since when do you pick when you're judged? How about the first five games when he was 0-5? I understand he turned it around but you're supposed to judge the MOP by the WHOLE season and if you do that Calvillo beats him. If you can pick and choose, why not judge them on the beginning of the season? Total yrds: 5,251 compared with 4,815. Int: 8 compared to 11. One was hot at the beginning of the season the other at the end. Numbers don't lie. Across the board, Calvillo beats him.

Lulay started 0-5; AC finished 0-4. Sports writers are no different than the rest of us: they have short memories. No one remembers how you start; they only care how you finish. Moreover, because Lulay is playing this week and AC isn't, having Lulay win MOP gives the media (who do the voting) a rags-to-riches story line that practically writes itself. This is useful because sports writers are a notoriously lazy bunch and I'm sure most of the one's out here in Vancouver would rather get their drink on than do any actual work. Lulay is an easy story to write about now while finding a new angle on AC would require a lot of work since so much has already been written. Besides, it's Grey Cup week and AC isn't playing while Lulay is.

I recall 2004 when flavour-of-the-month Casey Printers took the MOP over AC. Again that year the Lions were in the Grey Cup while the Als weren't but a couple of days after winning the MOP Printers suddenly wasn't good enough to be the Lions' starting QB in the biggest game of the year. The media gave the award to the self-aggrandizing Printers because his team was playing that week and he was a good quote. But his own team obviously didn't think he was all that special because when they took to the field they were led by Dave Dickenson, not Casey Printers.

You're absoluutely right. And what about last year? They gave it to Burris when AC deserved it more...and where is Burris today? A back-up.And do you remeber the gloating Burris did.Looks like the media doesn't pick very well. Not to put down Lulay, he had a tremendous season and I wish him luck but let's see what he does next year and then judge if he's more deserving than the league leader. Same goes for Coach of the year. Last year they give to Barker for a 9-9 season. Not that great to begin with. And what did he do this year? Awards go to proven winners.

Looks it's simple, the league/other fans HATES our success since '96 !

They hated the fact we headlined 8 Grey Cup since 2000....but they are all striving to be like US !

Oh and speaking of MOP, how about 2005 when Damon Allen won it....He was 3rd on all the charts but got the sympathy vote....

Just like a UFC fight, you might have the upper hand for 2:30 minutes in the round, but if you get whipped the last 30 seconds, judges will remember that & give the 10 pts to your opponent.....

I think that's what happened here:

Lulay started at 0-5 & AC at 4-1...then from week 17, AC went 0-3 , Lulay 2-1 & blew us out on week 19...MOP title was played right there IMHO

But I'll always be asking, if Richardson would still had a fighting chance vs Lulay had he been the Als MOP nominee.....we'll never know...
Season ticket holder since 2004 !

Back-to-Back Grey Cups ('09 & '10) and I witnessed it LIVE from the stands !

Like Diamond Dallas Page used to say: SELF HIGH FIVE !

I think Lulay won because Richardson was not nominated.
Im sure they figured that AC should not win because he was not the MOP of the team, let alone the league... Then add what XGamer said....
As for 2005. that was a real joke
