Als' "other A.C." still hoping for deal

Als runningback star Avon Cobourne is getting set for the delivery of his first child and he hopes...his new contract.

The 2009 Grey Cup MVP took in the Habs' game with agent Tim Fleiszer (the former Alouette) who tells CJAD 800 he's had talks with GM Jim Popp and Als head coach Marc Trestman recently.

"There's been some back and forth...Montreal is where Avon wants to be and it seems like Montreal wants him," says Fleiszer.

Cobourne will turn 32 before Training Camp opens and his TD totals in regular season dropped from 15-7 but he matched his career best with 64 catches and rushed for more than 900 yards for the 3rd straight season.

Well if Montreal is where he wants to be...and Montreal wants him....Get him signed!

I'm wondering if the discussions are related more to the length of his contract than money, I get the feeling he's looking to settle down with the baby coming and doesn't want to be bouncing around the league. I hope they finalize this quickly, it's stressing me out! I'd be really ticked to see Avon go.

Agree Lor that may be one of the main reason, also he possibly is waiting to see how much extra wiggle room he obtains in finalizing his last FA signing. but the fact they are going back forth is a good sign.

I get both sides of this. He's looking out for his & so is Popp.
His role was crucial this year. More blocking & less carries.Trestman held up until the playoffs to let him loose. He's fantastic. Team player. Shows up like crazy when needed. Hate to see him go. For AC it must be great knowing that Avons got your back when you need a little extra time. However.....
From the Popp perspective: 32 yr old RB. Up for a well deserved payraise from his rookie linebacker contract. Ouch$$$. As durable as he is, how long can it last. Mind you Cahoon & AC lasted 13 and nobody saw that coming.
I want him back for sure. If he leaves for a better $$$ situation and better fit for his to be family, I understand completely.
I'm sure an honest conversation with Trestman will clear the fog for everyone. At least I hope.

That Trestman was involved is a good sign, sounds like they want to make it work, hope they can bridge the and find common ground.

D'abord Hamilton. Cobb, malgré ses statistiques, n'a rien cassé l'an dernier.

I used to get all worried when the Als wouldn't resign a player like this. But now, I trust Popp so implicitly that I wouldn't even sweat one bit if Cobourne doesn't return. I trust Popp to find a replacement just as good.

I hope we sign him real soon! He's always been there when his number has been called and I beleive , even though he's 32,we haven't even seen the best of him yet (like Calvillo getting better with age). We're a pass oriented team but I beleive we can use him alot more than we have, so pay the money and use him!
