Als drop ball on "Grey Cup Tour"

Postby reppact » 31 Jan 2011 14:31

As we know, there have been some appearance by some players with the Grey Cup. I had hoped to have an official list of future locations so that Als fans from across the province could enjoy our 2nd consecutive championship. I emailed the Als last week and received a response today:
Unfortunately, the Alouettes must return the Cup to the Hamilton Hall of Fame in a few days.
We tried promoting it, but it was difficult with players either doing private activities or coordinating events on their own at the last minute.

There is a possibility we might get it back in March or April and do a tour.
I don’t have much details at the moment nor confirmation, but please keep your eyes open.

Thank you!

Is it me, or did the Als totally drop the ball on this? I would have thought that ANY appearance by the Cup with players would have been a team sanctioned event that should have been promoted by the team. Yet, we had to find out about these gatherings at the last moment most of the time.

Wow....

get the tape recorder out, find tape #3, put in & press the play button.....the Larry Smith way of doing things.....

At the 2010 CFL Grey Cup tweet up, me & section U2 were chit-chatting with the Grey Cup curator before taking our pictures with the Cup and I asked him if he's involved once a team win it. He told me he's not involved, the logistics of who gets the Cup for events, fundraiser, personal party is all managed internally within the team & usually the PR/Communication guy is in charge of keeping tabs until the Cup gets back at the Hall of Fame.

C'mon guys are you surprised by what we shall call an ......answer.....the Als gave us.....

Just to let you know Friday the Windsor Star had an article about Walter Spencer bringing the Grey Cup there:

C'mon Als don't tell me you didn't knew !

I dont think I agree with you. I heard about a few GC appearances over the last few months and I dont know if it is fair to blame the Als...This is Montreal after all and if a Habs player breaks wind....the press and TV MUST report it so that does not leave a lot of airtime or page space for the Als

Understood, but I am more or less talking abut on the website itself. The Als had more than ample time to put together a Tour page on the website for more team PROMOTION! That should be what it about, no matter how well you are known in the community. If other champions like the Blackhawks and the Giants can put something on their website, why can't the Alouettes?

You should not have Matthew Proulx tweet about his Cup appearances the DAY OF the event. It should have been released in advance so ppl can attend.

It's just very bad PR, hell, its no PR.

I agree the Montreal media sucks at covering anything but the Habs (French media especially). But when we asked the Als PR about a schedule of where the cup would appear, they had no info, u can blame the media for a lot of things, but not in this case. Not sure what is going on in the Als office, but It has a feel of being disorganized. I hope they get out of that funk, but man 2 GC should have been a marketer dream promo. Seems like they missed the boat twice.

I'm still bitter that they aren't doing the open locker room with Telus any more, I think that would have been a great start during back to back GC years.

No, I am not trying to beat a dead hourse here, but I received another reply to my original question to the Alouettes.
I have received your inquiry regarding Grey Cup appearances and unfortunately I’m afraid that the team will not be touring with the Cup this year. Some players have been to a couple of bars in Quebec City and Montreal but this was done more on a personal basis and wasn’t promoted.

The team only has the Cup until February 4th, it then returns to the Hall of Fame until the next championship. The period allowed for the possession of the Cup being pretty short, most of the activities planned are with our major sponsors or are organized by the players personally.

I apologize if you did not get the chance to see and feel the Cup this year, but we are hoping for a 3rd championship and will do our best to plan a tour in that event.

Cordially,

Émilie Desgagné

While I am happy to receive a response twice, its funny how they both responded to the same Q. Almost the same message with a few words different.

Talk to each other and work together dammit....then we wonder why things are so screwed up in the offices even when you call to get an info and/or a ticket relocation !

in example: On the day the tixs came out for the Als Huddle in Edmonton this year, we went to the tix office & ask for X number....girl at booth told us they weren't on sale yet....even if it was telling so on the website....

After we told her the site said so, show it to her on our mobile phone.....she went around & ask her colleagues/supervisor....we finally got them....(there went my lunch time !)

To add to the confusion they are saying they have to return the cup by February 4th yet Josh Bourke is announcing his event this coming Sunday (Feb 6th) with the Grey Cup:

Any one know if the Grey Cup was a "no show" at Josh's SB party?
